Today, more and more people are becoming aware of the importance of eating healthy and having a healthy lifestyle. Despite of these literature and all the warnings given to us, there are still a lot of people who fail in their attempt at becoming fit and healthy. We have received plenty of warnings of eating high-calorie diets and engaging in harmful behaviors, yet we still eat these foods and engage in these behaviors. Many people have tried but failed. People simply find it difficult to achieve a healthy lifestyle and this is why many still suffer from sickness today. What could be the cause of this failure?
The influence of gratification is the main cause of this failure. We want to receive instant gratification for an action immediately instead of waiting for its rewards. A lot of people today, if asked to choose between an instant reward over a better one promised in the future, will quickly choose the instant one. The problem with people is that they want everything now and they can’t wait for something that will still happen in the future even it is a far better reward than what you can have now.
If you apply this to living a healthy lifestyle, you cannot really see its effects immediately, but you need to wait for a while for you to see the results in your body. You know that dieting and exercise is good for you if you are overweight, but then you will not attain the results immediately and when you think of the hunger that you will feel, or the tiredness of your body , and denying yourself of treats, then you immediately give up on your goals and be as you are. Because of the absence of immediate results, people stop dieting and exercising even though they know it is good for them. The failure of many people in achieving the healthy lifestyle is because of this.
One way to help yourself is to give something to gratify yourself while you are doing your health plan. It is not really impossible to gain health benefits while laying aside instant gratification. Gratification perception can be overcome in different ways. But, you can actually try some methods to help you overcome this. One of the ways you can do it is by adding a bit of instant gratification to your health plan. Just to give you motivation to help you achieve your health goals, you can reward yourself every time you achieve a goal on your healthy living plan. As you get used to your new habits, you can start reducing your rewards.
Don’t make a mistake of rewarding yourself with food items that will go against your health goals. This can help you overcome the need for self gratification.
